CBA is a space for the adaptation community to share learning on community-based and locally led adaptation systems, and to explore how to put the principles for locally led adaptation (LLA) into practice, recognising the complexities, innovations and challenges that must be overcome.

With a focus on acquiring new skills, sharing experiences and connecting with peers, the conference offers participants four days of discussion, debate, peer-to-peer ‘skill-shares’ and knowledge exchange, through an innovative, dynamic and interactive space, enabling participants to promote climate action.

CBA18 guiding questions:

1. What needs to change for community organisations led by under-represented groups to more proactively shift inequitable power dynamics, create meaningful partnerships and influence policy and decision-making processes with governments, NGOs and private sector, for example in the context of National Adaptation Plan processes or decentralised climate finance? How can community groups led women, youth, persons with disability, Indigenous Peoples and marginalised groups creatively make this happen?
    
2. What is needed to ensure adaptation practitioners are skilled and creative in applying good practice approaches and facilitation techniques for strengthening the voice, agency and adaptive capacity of community-based organisations and enabling inclusive multi-actor interaction to support well-informed, locally-led decision making and action? Why is this important?
    
3. How can we amplify the voice, knowledge and creativity of people at the frontline of climate impacts – including Indigenous Peoples, persons with disability, women and youth – to co-create new strategies for LLA? For example, what are the opportunities and challenges for integrating their approaches to community-based landscape regeneration, nature-based solutions and farming systems or inclusive co-produced climate services and early warning systems with LLA?
    
4. Digital technology and storytelling from lived experience: what are their strengths and weaknesses and how could blending of scientific, technology-based, indigenous and local knowledge inform and strengthen adaptation impacts?
    
5. How can LLA strengthen the resilience of the growing numbers of vulnerable communities and displaced peoples in informal urban settlements or fragile and conflict-affected areas? How could we use a better understanding of colonial legacies and forces to shape adaptation in these contexts?
    
6. What are the connections between LLA and local loss and damage? How can a decolonisation approach help to address this interface in policy, finance and/or practice? How can LLA support those experiencing health and mental health impacts of climate change?

Tickets

In order to cover the costs and offer sponsorships to local practitioners from across the world CBA is a ticketed event.

Standard ticket: Standard tickets are £575 and are sold on a first-come, first-served basis until we reach capacity.

Solidarity ticket: For those who can contribute more, the solidarity ticket costs £600. By purchasing a solidarity ticket you are helping others to participate via the sponsorship programme and helping to make CBA18 more diverse, inclusive and accessible to all. Solidarity ticket holders will be acknowledged at the conference.

Tickets include registration for the four-day event, lunch and refreshments throughout each conference day and one welcome reception. Tickets do not include travel, accommodation, visas, travel insurance or all other meals. More information on logistics can be found in the online participant information pack.
