In recent years, various international organizations have increasingly chosen the link between natural resources, conflict, and cooperation as a central theme. At the same time, the system of international organizations is lacking a coherent framework that permits the coordination of corresponding programmes in the sectors crisis and conflict prevention, development, resource protection, poverty reduction, and population dynamics. Attempts to anchor this topic in a world environmental organization or in the context of ECOSOC have previously failed to produce results for different reasons.
